Mind - The Eighth Wonder of the World

Note: With this article, I don’t want to prove anything. This is my personal idea of writing about the eighth wonder of the world. As simple it is – the idea fascinated me and motivated me to write about it. So, here it goes:

There are certain things in this world that don’t have any particular definition. We see them, we observe them, and try to understand. Sometimes we fail, sometimes we succeed. A lot of things baffle my mind, right from The Big Bang theory to what we call as – death. Even death, from which one is afraid, leaves me puzzled. I don’t know why I perpetually think about things I don’t understand (or maybe won’t understand ever), but I, being a writer observe everything and my mind itself invent opinions on everything. I fail to stop it and by chance, I attain success in stopping it – I don’t know how – but the thoughts I avoided once, come back to me. It captures everything; it helps me remember each and every word; it does help me in drawing imaginative pictures; it also helps me plan things; most importantly, it does make me overcome fears by lightening the light of hope in my heart. If you’re still unaware what I am talking about then let me clearly state – it’s a mind.

Yes, it’s a mind that does all above things and maybe more (the above mentioned things are just some instances), I don’t know. A human being’s mind is capable of almost everything. And what I am going to write about is a product of my own imagination (I don’t know if it’s already being said or written somewhere) and in my mind, I’ve thought of it. Yesterday, I was sitting at my home with useless thoughts preoccupied in my mind and I was scrolling through internet in search for some writing tips (I do need them), and I stumbled upon an advertisement of a tours-and-travels site, which offered a tour of Seven Wonders of the World. And effortlessly, I clicked on it – and – internet redirected me to a totally new page that had this list of places:

List of Seven Wonders of the Modern World

  1. The Great Wall of China
  2. The City of Petra
  3. Rio-de-Janeiro
  4. The Machu Picchu
  5. Chichen Itza
  6. The Colosseum
  7. Taj Mahal (Agra)

I saw images of every place with equal amount of excitement and I realized the thrill to visit these places was already rushing in me. But then a thought occurred in my mind, sort of dropped in there, and that is the reason why I am writing this article.

According to the product of my imagination, I declare, just for myself that mind is the eighth wonder of the world and maybe the last one too. Many of you must be thinking – how this writer can declare a person’s mind as the Eighth Wonder of the World. (This declaration is just for me). As you know all Seven Wonders of the World are physical places, though beautiful and admirable, but the truth is – all of them are just material ones with no life in them.

So, what came to me is – Is there any place where these all seven wonders can stay (like a memory, visual memory) and the eighth wonder itself exists?

The only place I could think of at that point of time was – my own mind, where I could keep memories, images, and experience of all seven wonders and still, it would remain unaltered. That’s how I discovered the Eighth Wonder (Mind) and what left me wondering is that it’s inside me, inside all us and it is equally astonishing, admirable, and powerful as seven others.

But what I want to say is, no matter what, after all it is fiction. And I’d like to say that fiction can be misleading. Fiction (imagination) is born in a mind, what I’ve called The Eighth Wonder. I might have written some lines which shall excite you to think about it, but in the end it is fiction, just a product out of my imagination – that is born out of the mind. So, you should not believe it. But I do want to say – you must never believe it, but you must never forget that nevertheless what I told you is the – Truth.

Mind is The Eighth Wonder of the World and if you don’t believe me – then look back, glance at the history and see what dictators, politicians, and some evil minded people have done in the past or are still doing. It shall definitely leave you wondering – whether mind is the eighth wonder or not?

Thank you for reading,

Amay Saxena!
