Cut The Admission Drama!

College admissions have started with lots of rush in trains (which is not new), rush in colleges, parents and students rushing down every college to get admission. Before I start discussing this, I have one more topic to discuss on: That’s

Marks of Students:

Before students take admission, to a reputed college, they need to get enough marks to get in. Now days, 80 plus percentage are not that rewarding merit marks. Students who had studied enough of the textbooks and other notes, who actually deserve seats in colleges, are better left behind. This is the start of a major problem.

Admissions:

Let me go in details, there’s online process first, innocent students having no clue about how to fill up form, go to cyber cafes and pay them 500 bucks to do their work. This was the first spending, then, the merit list occurs, many students don’t get admission through online stuff.
After that, every year, offline admission – saga starts, where many sweaty parents and students take admission forms of college by paying them more 100 rupees. After filling the form, the students submit it and then they wait.
This waiting period is very frustrating period for students. They get taunting and long lectures from the parents, saying—you should have done better. On contrast, helpless kids, feeling not-so-good step out of the house, quietly unannounced.
All the things I said, have you noted the amount of money flown away. I asked, one guy, he told me—he had spent nearly 2000 rupees. I was shocked. This was the amount he had spent before taking admission in a decent college. I thought, something was not going right. (Even I had spent)
If students see their name on the merit list, they feel joyful. Finally, they take admission.

One Day:

This was all hectic.
I was standing near a tree; one student and his father were standing near to me. They were talking about:
“This online thing sucks. In our time, there wasn’t anything like this. We used to take the form and pay the fees along with the form. This is all useless.” Father of the student said.
“I also know. Papa, we have spent so much on admission forms and travelling. We have to do whatever system says” This time student cursed.
“What do you expect, beta? This is India.” Father said and they walked away from me. I sat there, angry and confused.
For few days, I decided to refuel myself.

Solution:

I found a solution to all this, drama. All parents and students can do is cooperate with the education system. This online process is a vital step towards  convenience of students and parents who are seeking admissions. I understood the reason behind it. As the population rose, the colleges found it difficult to attend every single student personally. So, they decided this online process, where they give guidelines in some book or in the related site.
Where people think about money, they need to think about time too. It saves ample of time. Education Board did not say parents to roam around in colleges. They only say, if your name comes in the first, second or third merit lists then take the admission. It gives what student deserve for themselves, without partiality. It is as simple as it is. Online process, is a step taken towards betterment of students, we should not curse the system for all this.

When that man said, “What do you expect, beta? This is India”. I wanted to hit him. (I had the guts too). This is not India needs from its citizens.

“India is what her people are. If people are not proper, how can India be proper?”

Stop cursing India. After all, we all love India somewhere inside our heart. Don’t we?
