Raksha Bandhan: Raksha, Eliminated!

Before reading this article I would like you all to read a poem. It is not actually a poem.
*I am bad at writing poems. Trust me, worst.

I’m a flying bird
I like to be free
I love freedom

No! No! Freedom
I can’t be free
I’m trapped
I’m locked

I like to wear
Skirts and shorts
People say too short
I say, oh c’mon

Inside the four walls
Is my place
If I go out
If I go out

Animals will kill me, soon.

Thank you, for reading such a pathetic piece. I hope you understood the above words. From the next line the article starts:

Raksha Bandhan, the word which has a clear and simple meaning—“Knot of protection”. Well, actually it is not as simple as that. Raksha Bandhan is a festival where sisters tie “object” called “Rakhi” to their so called brothers. It is a ritual. In India, it is celebrated all over. What the actually question is—Do this Raksha Bandhan really making any sense? Are sisters protected? Is every woman getting respect she deserves in our society? Is Raksha Bandhan has just become a trend and not a serious festival? With my own experience, I can freely say, “Raksha” word should be eliminated. There can be a bond between a brother and a sister but providing no protection to our sisters, is unfair right?

Looking at the current condition of our society, I don’t ever try to think that girls are protected from the eyes of devils. Normally when a woman wears a short dress some people stare at her with “Hope of Sex” in their eyes. According to me, they are not supposed to do it. Will men now control women wear? Even if they succeed in doing it, I don’t think their mindset will ever change. Our society is not openly thinking, yet. Rape, assaults, harassing women, and many several acts because of which our society in not safe for women, there should be an end to this.

One day, my mom informed me a 2 years old girl was raped by a 24 year old man. Fuck! I just muttered out without even thinking once. What a nightmare? She died in 2 hours after that evil act. It was not her (2 years old) fault. She was just born and was sent back immediately. What that person got from doing such things with that girl? Sexual satisfaction, nope!

It is all about attitude of a person. It depends on what a man is thinking and if he has some unpleasant thoughts, he should be clarified. The condition of the society is deteriorating day by day, month by month and year by year. Frankly speaking, there is no solution to all this. The only solutions I think of is—change in men mindset.  Until and unless, this sticky mindset does not changes; I guarantee you—women will be treated like a dead body and cases will continue in a more deadly manner ever seen by anyone…

Raksha Bandhan is not a festival it’s a duty of every Indian to protect woman from sexual exploitation and wrongdoings. After all, we all used to say in school, “All Indians are my brothers and sisters”
                You remember, right?
